Walt Fogle

1951-2023

Walter Fogle JR of Woodinville WA passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by family, on December 21, 2023, after suffering a stroke. He was 72 years old. Walt is survived by his wife, Karen Fogle, and his children and their families: Brendon Fogle, Sarah Scarborough and Zach Fogle. He was immensely proud of his 8 grandchildren, William, Maggie, Landon,Gabe, Maia, Pike, Locke and Jett, and was always happy to spend a quiet afternoon with them! He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the greater Dayton OH area. He is preceded in death by his parents Sarah and Walter Fogle and his brothers Mark, Forrest, Charles and David. He always recalled fond memories of his four brothers and his parents, and never stopped missing them. He was very proud of his service in the US Air Force Reserves and the military service of his family members, spending time researching their gravesites, and placing head stones for those who were missing that important recognition.

Walt was born in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1969 where he was known as JR, and he attended Sinclair College. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Hamlin, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage earlier this year. They moved to Seattle in 1979 where Walt worked in the airfreight industry. His career path changed soon thereafter when his wife, Karen, created a private school in Woodinville. Walt joined the staff at Chrysalis School providing administrative support over the last 30 years , where he and Karen worked side by side every day. The Chrysalis family will miss his dedication and support, as he was always willing to lend a hand.

Walt was a learner and was passionate about many things. As a young man, while dating Karen, he played guitar in a garage band, which is where his passion for music started. He gathered a beautiful collection of guitars and played one of them nearly every day. He shared his love of music with everyone he knew, including teaching his granddaughters to play ukulele. He spent hours with old and new friends and his kids attending concerts including those at the St. Michelle Winery. Walt was an expert on the civil war and took many trips across the country, viewing history through the battlefields he walked through. Just recently, he took his last trip to Shiloh with a dear friend, something he had really looked forward to. He never missed an opportunity to visit a cemetery where Civil War soldiers were buried. Walt was a 20-year member and past President of the Tyee Triumph club. He thoroughly enjoyed the car shows and the camaraderie with other members, sometimes hosting the group at his home…Triumphs everywhere! His enthusiasm for classics also included his prized British cars, one of which he built from a bucket of parts. Walt loved his RV, nature and hiking. He spent many days on many paths throughout the Northwest with his family who inherited that love. He had a great sense of humor, was patient and kind and gentle. He was loved by many.
